The Global Fashion Summit, a flagship event organized by Global Fashion Agenda is one of the leading forums for sustainability in fashion. The Summit has been spearheading the sustainability movement for the past decade by bringing together global industry leadership, change makers, and thinkers to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable fashion industry.

At the Global Fashion Summit 2023, Copenhagen edition, organized 27-28 June under the title ‘Ambition to Action’, the Switch to Circular Economy Value Chains project was represented through one of our pilot projects in the Textile & Garments value chain – Switch to Upstream Circularity project, implemented in Bangladesh together with BESTSELLER, Global Fashion Agenda, and several other local and international partners.

Pilot representatives BESTSELLER, Global Fashion Agenda, Reverse Resources and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) joined the panel discussion Disrupting Informal Sector Systems and shared their insights and experiences related to the informal sector and its impact on the fashion supply chain. The session aimed to inform and engage summit attendees by presenting a comprehensive discussion on various aspects of the informal sector, including its definition, relevance, challenges, and potential for positive change, as well as to discuss the way forward to a meaningful inclusion to scale recycling of post-industrial waste in Bangladesh. Some of the main points discussed by the industry representatives were the challenges of gathering post-industrial and post-consumer waste globally and the importance of establishing long-term relationships. The panel identified the need for knowledge sharing and capacity building of the industry stakeholders and a wider stakeholder collaboration with government support in creating a landscape to attract investment is recycling technologies to developing countries.
Switch to Circular Economy Value Chains project and the BESTSELLER Switch to Upstream Circularity pilot were also represented in the Circular Fashion Partnership booth as part of the Innovation Forum and the Global Fashion Summit. This curated community connects the world’s leading sustainable solutions to fashion brands and retailers to drive meaningful transformation.
